Summer Sizzlers Session One:
Finding Little Egypt
Tuesday, July 9, 6 p.m.
Knights of Columbus Hall, 10110 Shoreview Road
In 1883, former slave Jeff Hill purchased about thirty acres in what is today’s Lake Highlands neighborhood. By the 1920’s, a church and a one-room school had been added to the growing homesteads of Little Egypt. The entire community collectively sold their property to developers in the 1960’s who promptly demolished it for commercial development. Dr. Clive Siegle of Richland College will explore the history and ultimate urban archaeology of the site with a discussion at the KC Hall followed by a tour of the nearby archaeological dig.
