SUMMER SIZZLERS
Preservation Dallas is pleased to present the 2018 season of Summer Sizzlers– our popular series of educational lectures and tours, offering insights into preservation topics, architecture and history!
Each session will be held at 6pm in the Wilson Carriage House with the exception of our July 31 session at a different location. Free parking is available on the streets surrounding the Wilson House and in the parking lot along Floyd Street.

Ira DeLoache and his Preston Hollow

In 1924, Ira Deloache bought a 56 acre farm of which Preston Hollow’s first lots were formed and Preston Road, originally part of the old Chisholm Trail, became its main thoroughfare. Mr. Deloache’s grand daughter, Louis Deloache Atkinson, will provide us with a history of this beautiful neighborhood, home to a former US president, business executives, and major sports figures, as well as some of the most exclusive homes in the Dallas area.
Restoring our Texas Courthouses

County courthouses are one of the most recognized symbols of Texas with 235 historic ones still in use, the most of any state. Stan Graves, principal at Architexas and former director of architecture at the Texas Historical Commission for over 26 years, will discuss the beginnings of the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program and how it has helped our great state.
Lost, Texas

Have you ever driven past an old, abandoned building and wondering what was its use and what it looked like in its heyday? Author and photographer, Bronson Dorsey, will take us on a visual tour all over Texas of these hidden and sometimes neglected gems. Copies of his book, Lost, Texas, Photographs of Forgotten Buildings, will be available for sale.
The Shack
Tuesday | July 31 | 6pm | 1518 Abrams Road
The Shack began life in 1918 on Tremont Street as a two-car garage. Roger D. McIntosh, a stained glass artist, bought it in 1921 and turned it into a domicile which he named “The Shack”. After major additions and a second owner, the current owner, Terri Raith, bought it in 2004 and began extensive repairs after discovering it on a Preservation Dallas outing. Please enjoy the visit to this truly unique Junius Heights home which is on the National Historic House Registry.
