Preservation Dallas – In-Town Outing to Temple Emanu-El

Designed by Howard Meyer and Max Sandfield and completed in 1957, Temple Emanu-El is one of Dallas’s most iconic modernist houses of worship. The synagogue campus at Hillcrest and Northwest Highway is home to the largest Jewish congregation in the southern United States.

Temple Emanu-El is home to a number of stunning sanctuaries and chapels, as well as inviting and striking outdoor and interior spaces. It was profiled in Life Magazine for its innovative architecture when it opened in the 1950s. A recent renovation in 2016, including a new chapel designed by Corky Cunningham, has honored the historic design principles of the building while incorporating bold new architectural elements.
