Our current exhibition celebrates the architecture of our neighborhood–not only the iconic Republic Center, but buildings and spaces nearby, including Thanks-Giving Square, the currently under-construction Pacific Plaza Park, and the old Federal Building/Post Office.
This Lunch Learning Session/Tour will give an up-close look at the Federal Building (1930). Constructed to consolidate federal offices previously located throughout downtown, the building was extensively restored and transformed in 2011 into residential units, now known as 400 N. Ervay. However, many of the historic spaces, including the post office and the third floor courtrooms were preserved to maintain their unique character.
Join us for this tour led by preservation architect for the project, Norman Alston, and learn more about the history of the building, including its connections to Roe v. Wade and the Kennedy assassination.
At the request of building management, the tour group will be restricted to twenty people. Please register here. We know this tour will be popular, so if you register and your plans change, please let us know so we can notify someone on the waiting list.
We will meet at AD EX and depart for the tour promptly at 11:30 a.m. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate latecomers. After the hour-long tour, we encourage you to have or pick up lunch at Hospitality Sweet in the lobby of the Federal Building. They are generously offering a 10% discount to tour takers that day.
