In 1962 Charles Dilbeck designed a distinctive home for local developer Sam Lobello, Jr. and his wife Margaret nestled into a cul-de-sac in Russwood Acres. At 8,800 square feet, the Lobello House was one of his boldest contemporary designs while still comprising Dilbeck’s idiosyncratic ranch style.

Rough stone walls come all the way up the window sills, allowing just enough light into the rooms while still providing privacy from the street. The wood shake gabled roof, broad beams and stone supports emphasize the home’s size and structure and are reminiscent of the rustic park architecture built in this country after 1900. The home was designed with entertaining in mind. Here, the combined dining and living room open up to a large rear yard, flooding the spacious rooms with natural light. One of the homes most notable features is the living room ceiling whose shallow lapping boards create a geometric pattern emphasizing the horizontal lines of the ranch house.

True to the Ranch House style, the back yard offers an incredible entertaining space. A long porch, with its board and batten walls and brick herringbone floors, provides ample shade for casual outdoor dining. A swimming pool and patio are complete with changing rooms.

Unfortunately, the Lobello home was completely destroyed by fire in 2016. But, it has been painstakingly rebuilt using Dilbeck’s original plans by the current owners.
REGISTRATION:
This house was scheduled to be on our 2019 Fall Architectural Tour but due to unforeseeable construction issues just prior to the tour, this home was not available for viewing at that time. We have been able to reschedule the tour of this incredible house and opened it up to current Preservation Dallas members who did not go on the fall tour. Members can reserve a spot for $10 and the general public can reserve a spot for $20.
