At the Movies: Mies van der Rohe

This is the centenary year of the Bauhaus, the German art school that so transformed design…not only architecture, but also in the arenas of furniture, graphics, and art. We’ll continue our Lunch Learning Session summer film series paying tribute to this important movement.

Mies van der Rohe was the third director of the Bauhaus at a time when politics were becoming more and more charged in Germany. When things became too difficult, Mies and the other staff members decided to close the Bauhaus and Mies emigrated to the United States. From his position at the Illinois Institute of Technology, he would design buildings that changed the face of American architecture, including New York’s Seagram Building, the Lake Shore Drive Apartment Buildings in Chicago, and Farnsworth House.

Join us for this documentary screening on this Modernist master. We’ll gather at 11:30 p.m. with our lunches and the screening will start promptly at noon. To RSVP, e-mail info@DallasADEX.org
