winner of a
2024 Preservation Achievement Award
On Wednesday, April 3rd, Preservation Dallas is thrilled to host “An Evening of Art and Architecture, celebrating the work of Frank Welch.” The event, which is being presented by realtor Michelle Wood of the Detwiler+Wood real estate group of Compass Realty, will be held in the stunning Janus House at 11515 Hillcrest, which was designed by Welch in 1985. We are also pleased to announce that The Janus House will be the winner of a 2024 Preservation Achievement Award, in the new Legacy Architect category.

Marc McCollom and Bentley Tibbs
at 7:00pm
The home—which spans over 6,300 square feet, and sits on spectacular creekside acreage—was beautifully remodeled in 2021 by Stacy Jacobsen of SJ Studio, and retains many of its original features, including two koi ponds at the front entry; a stunning creekside patio and pool deck; a verdant riparian landscape; large arched passageways between rooms; walls of windows facing the creek; and expansive gallery walls, that can display an extensive art collection.
The evening will feature two speakers: Dallas architects Marc McCollom, who oversaw technical aspects of the recent remodel, and Bentley Tibbs, who worked closely with Frank Welch, and will speak about Welch’s career and body of work. The event will run from 6pm to 9pm, with the speakers’ program at 7pm. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.
Several home design companies whose work is featured in the home’s renovation and décor—including The Hudson Company; Farrow & Ball Paint; Bulthaup Kitchens; and De La Vega Designs—are sponsoring the event. The Hudson Company—whose extraordinary hardwood floors are on view throughout the home—will have a representative on-site from their Upstate New York mill and showroom to discuss their products and services, and Farrow & Ball will have a Dallas-based representative present to discuss their paint, which adorns the home’s luminous interior walls and ceilings.
The house will also be beautifully appointed with artwork from Dallas-based gallery sponsor Talley Dunn; antiques from JF Chen showroom in Los Angeles; and a special commissioned painting from artist and Preservation Dallas board member Erika Huddleston. Displayed artwork will be available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit Preservation Dallas.
Ticket prices are $75 for individuals and $125 for couples / dual admission.
“Friends of Frank” and “Fans of Frank” sponsorships—for companies and individuals who would like to donate in memory of Frank Welch, and his own long legacy of engagement with Preservation Dallas—are also available, and come with complimentary tickets (if interested, please see the sponsorship form, below). Checks are gladly accepted for sponsorship payment, in lieu of online registration. For more information about sponsorship, please email mw@preservationdallas.org.
All attendees and sponsors of this event will receive discount codes for $15/person off tickets to the 25th Annual Preservation Achievement Awards ceremony, which will be held at the Kalita Humphreys Theater on Tuesday evening, May 21st.
