RIDDLE: what’s stackable or foldable and something you don’t think about until this time of year?
Spare chairs. We don’t give them a thought until we’re ready to add more seats at the table and then it is often something of a scavenger hunt to come up with chairs that look good with, or even fit around, the table. We seek out slim line chairs that look compatible but somehow “go away” visually and do not distract from the original table seating group. Or perhaps they add a punch of color to the table scape in hot red or orange?
The good news is that many manufacturers have thought about this and are offering stacking and/or folding chairs on sale. The chairs need to be slim in profile, to fit in around the table, comfortable and built to suit most bodies. But they need to look good when out on display and not take up too much space when the festivities are over and the chairs are stowed in garage or attic. Oh, and they need to be inexpensive.
The Rex Gray Chair at $70.00 is lightweight with a faux wicker seat made of plastic piping with a polished aluminum frame. It will reside outdoors or indoors and stacks when not in use. Its café style has a certain laid back attitude.

West Elm offers a stackable Peppermill Chair for less than $70.00 in four options of modern oak, with an oak veneer body, in Black or Oak, and White or Oregano made from an engineered wood with a lacquer finished. The legs are made of polished nickel. The dimensions are 17.5” wide, 15.25” deep and 31.75” high.
