This fan-favorite exhibition returns for special viewing!
Charles Dilbeck (1907-1990) is one of Dallas’ most iconic architects. Combining signature elements of French Norman and Ranch styles through variations, symmetry, and asymmetry, he developed a personal architectural style that is instantly recognizable in his works in Dallas and beyond. Organized by a trio of individuals quite familiar to our architectural scene—architect Philip Henderson, FAIA, architect and author Willis Winters, FAIA, and photographer Carolyn Brown— Evolving A Personal Style: The Architecture of Charles Dilbeck uses large-scale photography highlighting a variety of buildings throughout the region to illustrate the common themes running through these unique structures.
The exhibition grew out of a workshop taught by noted architectural photographer Carolyn Brown. Participants learned about Dilbeck’s style and history, then documented homes throughout the Dallas area. Participating photographers include: Daisy Avalos, Justin Curtsinger, Lyndall Dyer, Don Essmiler, Gabrielle Pruitt, and Frank Richards.
Evolving A Personal Style-The Architecture of Charles Dilbeck is presented by the Architecture and Design Foundation with additional support from Pierce and Allie Beth Allman/Allie Beth Allman and Associates, Robbie and Nancy Briggs/Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty, Katherine D. Seale, Nancy Shutt, Nancy McCoy/McCoy Collaborative, Phoenix I Restoration and Construction, and Sachson Art.
The exhibition, first shown in 2019, returns for an encore run through September 30.
