Dallas Center for Photography Welcomes Celebrated Photojournalist Ed Kashi for Three Events

Gallery days and hours are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10am-2pm and Fridays 12pm-6pm.
Masks are recommended for both gallery events, but not required.
Please join Dallas Center for Photography (DCP) at its community gallery to welcome back renowned photojournalist Ed Kashi for a gallery exhibition, lecture, book signing, and photography workshop. The Ed Kashi Abandoned Moments exhibition and artist talk are sponsored by Arlington Camera.
On Friday, August 5, Ed headlines the DCP Speaker Series for an artist talk to speak about his photojournalistic work, his philosophy and style, and Abandoned Moments, his latest project. Kashi’s engaging presentation highlights the common humanity between his own approach to photography, his subjects, and the viewers of his work. To attend this uniquely interesting and insightful Speaker Series event, register here. Masks are recommended but not required. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Dallas Center for Photography members will receive complementary entry for this event.
For forty years, Ed Kashi has delivered the world’s stories through images that both imply, as well as directly show, humanistic challenges and joys. Abandoned Moments: A Love Letter to Photography (Kreher Verlag, March 2022) is Kashi’s 40-year “labor of love,” a window into his unique voice and craft, and presents glimpses of ordinary life, as well as extraordinary events, struggles, and triumphs – the chaos of everyday life.
The images selected for Ed’s book and exhibition span the decades of his work and were taken around the world. Kashi speaks to the ‘abandoned moments’ theme cued by the title, stating that “Abandoned moments demonstrate a different kind of precision. They are shaped by serendipity and instinct, rather than objectivity and intellect. They are free to be less controlled but for that very reason they may be more certain and more certainly true…”
While DCP will also host a four-day immersive photography workshop instructed by Ed, his ever-popular workshop is already at capacity. Be sure to attend the artist talk and book signing to learn more about Ed’s work, his style and his philosophy to trust what you see by shooting from the hip.

About Ed Kashi
Ed Kashi is a renowned photojournalist, filmmaker, speaker, and educator who has been making images and telling stories for 40 years. As a member of VII Photo Agency, Kashi has been recognized for his complex imagery and its compelling rendering of the human condition. Along with numerous awards from World Press Photo, Poi, COMM Arts and American Photography, Kashi’s images have been published and exhibited worldwide. His editorial assignments and personal projects have generated nine books. Kashi in partnership with his wife, writer and filmmaker Julie Win Okur, founded Talking Eyes Media.
