8115 San Benito Way built in 2012 by W2 Studio
Photography courtesy of Fred Meyer and Masako Fujinami.
This beautiful new home was recently finished in November 2012. It is a 5 bedroom, 4 bath 3,800 sq. ft. sustainable modern home built by W2 Studio with a 500 sq. ft. separate quarters in the back. Its worldly owners have lived in Asia and Europe, and they have furnished their home with bold pieces from travels abroad. This house has a very Zen feel with Asian gardens on each side of the home. A combination of modern construction and warm textures works to create the home’s spaces. The building is constructed using Insulated Concrete Forms which create thick exterior walls. Steel framing is used to create large interior spans. The home's focus is a large atrium space that connects the lower and upper levels. A floating roof plane caps this main space and is separated from the walls by a continuous band of clerestory windows. Some recycled materials used in the construction include antique wood flooring on the lower level, milled from a 100 year-old family farm in Louisiana. Countertops from recycled bottles were used, as well and reclaimed teak wood exterior trim. The house even has a safe room.

This home features an open kitchen to the living area with high end stainless steel appliances and a large island with a waterfall countertop. The designer was not afraid to use color and used a lot of glass tile in the master bath to give a retreat like feel to the room. The huge game room, one bedroom and a bath were added upstairs. |

9205 E Lake Highlands Dr built in 2013 by W2 Studio
Photography courtesy of Fred Meyer and Masako Fujinami.
This home is a 2,500 sq. ft. simple modern construction actually built on the foundation of an existing home. This home was recently finished in 2013 by W2 Studio. The ground floor footprint is from the original structure and a second floor was added. Situated on a hill overlooking a park and White Rock Lake, the owners wanted to create a calm setting that took advantage of the outdoor spaces surrounding their home. Coarse, terra cotta brick of the original home is combined with antique weathered siding of the new addition to create a simple, peaceful setting. A large roof terrace provides an outdoor living space which overlooks the lake and skyline of downtown. The upper floor and roof terrace are connected to the lower level by a large sunlit gallery and stairwell. The backyard features a beautiful pool and hot tub with glass tile and an adjacent stair-step landscape. W2 Studio worked with the owners to select much of the furniture and artwork.
