THE MAGNOLIA GALLERY
BENJAMIN HANCOCK
Dallas artist Benjamin Hancock has a solo exhibition of new work entitled,
"Bitter Sweet" at the Magnolia Bar Gallery, located inside the Magnolia Theatre
in the West Village, 3699 McKinney Avenue in Dallas from April 23 through
May 27, 2008. The reception is Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 6–9 PM.
Admission to the reception is free and the art is available for viewing during
regular theatre hours. Go to
www.landmarktheatres.com for show times
and more information about the theatre.

Hancock's work taps into a bittersweet nostalgia that hits home with children of
the late 70s and early 80s. In his work, you'll find iconic images of a generation
that has passed such as playgrounds, bikes, skates and the venerable Atari.
Each is positioned in free-form with an energy that comes off the wood surface
— as if a set of lyrics are speaking to the viewer. A born storyteller, Hancock
substitutes images for words and every painting serving as his next chapter.

Hancock holds a BFA from University of North Texas and has shown extensively
in the DFW area in venues such as 500X, Revolution Gallery, Pawn Gallery,
Artizen, Meridian Room, Nine-Eyes Gallery, and Photos Do Not Bend. By day,
Hancock is an Art Director for Tribal DDB, an interactive advertising agency.
The Gallery at the Magnolia is located upstairs in the Bar. It is the intention that
fresh, local talent is featured on a regular basis that provides an interesting
backdrop to independent film. Scott Horn and Nicole Cullum are curators of
the space, but for this exhibit only, Sarah Jane Semrad is the guest curator.
